Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic has been playing at an unreal level this season. Over his last eight games, he has raised the bar up another notch.

During that eight-game period, Doncic has produced insane averages of 40.9 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game. Those numbers have helped the Lakers go on an eight-game winning streak. His production along with the team’s success is no coincidence.

At this point in the season, Los Angeles is starting to look the part of a potential NBA Finals contender. If Doncic continues playing at the level he has shown of late, the Lakers are going to be a very difficult to beat in a seven-game playoff series.

With that being said, the NBA took to social media on Friday afternoon to share historic news about Doncic.

NBA Shares Historic Announcement About Lakers Superstar Luka Doncic

The NBA has shared a historic milestone that Doncic has now reached.

“Luka Dončić scored 60 points against the Miami Heat last night, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to their eighth straight victory. He became the seventh player in NBA history to record three or more 60-point games, joining Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, James Harden and Damian Lillard,” the post read.

“During the Lakers’ winning streak, Dončić has totaled 327 points, 71 rebounds and 59 assists, becoming the first player to reach those totals in an eight-game span since Baylor in 1961.”

Needless to say, Doncic has been playing at a historic level. He has begun forcing his way further and further into the NBA MVP conversation.

Throughout the course of the 2025-26 NBA season thus far, Doncic has played in 58 games. He has averaged 33.4 points per game to go along with 8.4 assists, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.6 steals, while shooting 47.7 percent from the floor and knocking down 37 percent of his three-point attempts.

At 27 years old, Doncic has officially entered his prime. With him leading the way, Los Angeles is going to be a championship contender for years to come.

What’s Next for the Los Angeles Lakers?

Currently, the Lakers hold a 45-25 record. They are leading the Pacific Division race by six games over the Phoenix Suns.

If the season were to end today, Los Angeles would head into the playoffs as the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference playoff picture. The Lakers only trail the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs respectively.

Los Angeles will look to continue its impressive winning streak on Saturday evening when they face off against the Orlando Magic on the road. Coming off of a 60-point performance in a win over the Miami Heat, Doncic will look to continue his hot streak.

Fans will be watching closely to see what Doncic has in store on Saturday as he continues trying to beat out Nikola Jokic, Victor Wembanyama, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the MVP rankings.
