Winter is coming to an end this weekend, ushering in spring and with it a new wave of hopefulness — and movie magic.
This weekend, March 21-22, one of the most highly anticipated projects of the year is coming to theaters, with a charming (as ever) Ryan Gosling in the leading role.
On streaming, Peaky Blinders is back with a new movie, and Taylor Sheridan‘s latest — which is notably not a Yellowstone spinoff — is coming to an end.
And there’s more! Here’s a list of the nine best new movies and shows to watch this weekend and where to stream them, curated by PEOPLE’s film and TV experts.
Project Hail Mary
Waking up on a spaceship with no recollection of how or why he ended up there, Ryland (Gosling) is understandably alarmed. He gradually recalls his mission as flashbacks explain how he was recruited by a government operative to solve why our sun is dimming.
When Ryland comes in contact with an alien ship and meets its sole passenger, a creature he names Rocky (voiced by James Ortiz), an intergalactic friendship is born, one that could save the universe. —NIGEL SMITH

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man
Years after the wildly popular Netflix show ended, Cillian Murphy is once again picking up the (iconic) hat as Tommy Shelby.
He is interrupted from his quiet life when he finds out his estranged son, Duke (Barry Keoghan), is working with Nazis and leading Shelby’s Peaky Blinders gang into an unruly direction. —REBECCA AIZIN

The Madison
Michelle Pfeiffer is exquisite as a wealthy self-proclaimed “city mouse” navigating grief with her family in rural Montana following a sudden loss.

Imperfect Women
Is Imperfect Women reheating the nachos of hits like Big Little Lies or The Perfect Couple? Guilty. Yet, as far as fashionably A-listed murder-mysteries-based-on-a-book go, this still packs enough surprises to warrant a watch. (Just give it several episodes to warm up.)
Kerry Washington, Elisabeth Moss and Kate Mara take turns leading as best friends with vastly different lives, each hiding secrets and lies. It’s not a spoiler that Mara’s Nancy turns up dead, and fingers start pointing to identify a killer. The finale’s closing shot will be maddening to some and a relief to others. —BENJAMIN VANHOOSE

The Comeback season 3
Lisa Kudrow is brilliant and hilarious as ever as she steps back into the role of charmingly self-absorbed TV actress Valerie Cherish for the third and final season of The Comeback, which first premiered in 2005.
After struggling to find work amid the writer and actor strikes in 2023, the endearingly oblivious Valerie takes a job as the star of the first-ever sitcom written using artificial intelligence and navigates backlash from showbiz peers and viewers alike. —JACK IRVIN

Invincible season 4

Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat
Another season, another unsuspecting citizen played the fool.

Beauty in Black season 2 part 2

Inspired by the resilience of the real-life Amanda Ogle (Rose Byrne), a homeless woman who sued a tow company to reclaim her car, this indie is clichéd but charming.
The all-star cast (Octavia Spencer, Ariana DeBose) breathes life into an undercooked script, and Byrne brings it home with a buzzer-beater monologue. —BAILEY RICHARDS
