Midland College hosts thousands of students for science extravaganza

MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) – Midland College held their annual science extravaganza for MISD middle schoolers today.

Students engaged in hands-on science exhibits and experiments led by Midland College students and faculty.

The science extravaganza brought science to life through 20 interactive exhibits covering math, biology, and robotics.

The event included multiple activities including simulated volcanic eruptions, an obstacle course, and more.

Over 1,600 sixth graders from across Midland participated in each activity.

Lori Haltom, Executive Director of College and Career Connections at Midland College, said “Our Dean of Science Dr. Poage reached out to some of our faculty and said Hey, we really want kids to get the full experience. So, there’s some lab assistance and there’s some Midland College students that are getting to teach and we all know that the best way to be the best learner is to also be able to teach.”

Students were also left with a grand finale designed to leave them inspired by the world of science.
