It used to be the case that every fashion week, editors, buyers and high-value customers would go to take note of the trends emerging in the great houses’ collections. While still true, it’s no longer the case that our attention is fixed solely on the runways; over the past few years, the street style set’s authority has increased tenfold, with the fashion crowd now promising as much inspiration and influence on upcoming trends as the season’s collections.
Most people have their favourite city for street style; whether it’s Paris, London or New York, each one offers a distinctive yet diverse aesthetic that in some way mirrors the energy of the city. For me, it’s always Copenhagen; the Scandi set regularly appear two steps ahead of the rest of the fashion crowd in terms of emerging trends with their innately cool and experimental style.
That said, certain street-style trends do emerge across fashion month every season, highlighting a thread of commonality through the cities. When such a vast range of creativity and dress codes can find common ground, it’s best to take note of exactly what it is that they’re agreeing on.
The most recent fashion week schedules looked ahead to the autumn/winter 2026 season, with street-style guests demonstrating a similar forward-looking approach while also dressing for the transitional winter-spring weather we currently find ourselves navigating. The takeaway: these are the trends that will carry you seamlessly, and chicly, through the rest of 2026.
Ahead, we’ve rounded up the 6 street style trends that were on display this past fashion month, to help refresh your seasonal wardrobe ahead of everyone else.
1/ Statement ties
Whether embellished with brooches or boldly patterned in style, the fashion set have been smartening up their ensembles with attention-demanding ties. Some styled them classically with oversized tailored trouser suits, while others subverted the traditional accessory by pairing it with unexpected pieces like windbreaker jackets and glossy leather coats.
2/ Balloon trousers
Campaigners against the return of the skinny jean will be more than happy to hear that the street-style set embraced a much more voluminous silhouette this season; balloon-style trousers were ubiquitous, balancing drama with structure, whether styled tucked into knee-high boots or elevated with an elegant slingback heel.
3/ Military jackets
Ubiquitous in the ’00s, military jackets have been threatening a revival for a few seasons now: McQueen, Dior, Kenzo and Ann Demeulemeester showed them for spring/summer ’26, with Khaite and Etro giving the style their own spin for autumn/winter ’26. Off the runway, the fashion set pledged their allegiance to the style, dressing down the nostalgic piece with loose-fit jeans and trainers or sleek boots.
4/ Two-tone shoes
It didn’t take much more than Matthieu Blazy showing two-tone pumps at his debut Chanel show last year (and again in his pre-fall and autumn/winter 2026 collections) for us to become enamoured with the style once more. The classic capped-toe footwear was reportedly one of the most popular styles when his new collection hit Chanel stores earlier this month, but the street-style set were already clued up, employing the sophisticated yet easy-to-style shoe in their fashion week outfits to add an understated focal point.
5/ Pillbox hats
The trend for fancy little hats has been bubbling away since last year, but 2026 is looking primed for prim and proper headwear. Crocheted skullcaps, fisherman hats and even baker boy caps have been doing the rounds, but it’s the retro pillbox style that cinched the number one spot on the heads of the fashion set. Elegant, timeless and instantly elevating, it’s not hard to see why.
6/ Funnel-neck jackets
Funnel-neck jackets are already proving to be one of the biggest outerwear trends this year, imagined in cool-girl leather bombers, low-belted cropped trenches, and relaxed, technical styles. Whichever style you go for, the addition of the structured high neck will ensure your outfit channels an air of detached coolness.
7/ Cobalt-blue accents
Cobalt blue remains the saturated through-line of the spring/summer and autumn/winter ’26 collections. Though on the runways, it was styled in big, eye-catching blocks, the street-style set adopted an understated approach, accenting their looks with touches of cobalt-blue accessories and knitwear.
