Segment: Financing Action on Extreme Heat and Maternal and Newborn Health: The Way Forward

At the International Maternal and Newborn Health Conference 2026, the satellite session “Extreme heat and MNCH: moving forward with priority programme and financing actions” will explore how rising temperatures are increasingly shaping risks for maternal and newborn health, and what it will take to accelerate coordinated, system-wide responses. As climate-related shocks intensify, addressing extreme heat is becoming critical to protecting the health and well-being of women, newborns and families.

The segment “Financing Action on Extreme Heat and Maternal and Newborn Health: The Way Forward” will examine how innovative and better-aligned financing approaches can respond to these growing risks. Discussions will highlight country experiences in mobilizing domestic resources, opportunities to unlock and scale climate finance, and the role of heat-smart innovations in building resilient health systems. Particular attention will be given to low- and middle-income countries, where exposure and vulnerability remain highest, and where integrated solutions can deliver the greatest impact.

Bringing together perspectives from government, multilateral organizations and global health experts, the session will also explore how to strengthen collaboration across sectors, align climate and health priorities, and identify high-impact investment opportunities.
