If You Love Prada Sport, You Should Know Permanent Vacation

I was scrolling on TikTok when one of those videos came up on my For You page: “If you love Paloma Wool, you’ll love…” As I kept watching, I found out about Permanent Vacation, an emerging Australian brand out of Melbourne founded by Claire Louise Smith. Since then, it’s become an instant favorite for what I think of as “artful minimalism.”

With its new collection out today, I recently stopped by the showroom to preview it ahead of time. When I asked the PR team how they’d describe Permanent Vacation, they said “performance-inspired” and “Prada Sport,” which felt spot-on. Like many people who are into fashion, I’ve spent my fair share of time on reseller sites searching “Prada Sport,” so it made sense why I’d been gravitating toward the brand.

There’s a similar aesthetic: pared-back and understated; signature ’90s minimalism but with a slightly gorpy twist. The pieces are sleek yet technical, made in a restrained color palette out of materials sourced from Japan. Each item has something distinctive about it while still feeling easy to wear and timeless. For its latest capsule, Slow Dance, described as “a series of garments built around tension and release,” the label continues its foundational, focused approach to design.

My favorites include the matching recycled nylon Refract Singlet and Refract Skirt sets, which come in Slate, Tangerine, and Lilac, as well as the Orbit Dress and Debut Skirt. Another thing to note: The line operates on a project-based model rather than a traditional seasonal calendar. Instead, it releases curated edits in limited runs, producing only to meet demand, so each project remains available until it’s gone.
