I LOVE RESORTWEAR! (I had to get that off my chest.) I know it’s unoriginal—who doesn’t like vacation?—but I really do. Each year, when designers release their resort or cruise collections, I’m always delighted. The category has a joie de vivre that other collections sometimes lack (sorry). There’s no workwear involved, and maybe that’s what I love about it. Shopping for resortwear feels like a vacation in itself. What shoes will I want to hold as I walk along the beach? What sarong will go best with my frozen daiquiri? Such are the questions you have to ask yourself when shopping for vacation clothes—and isn’t that alone a pleasure?
As a shopping editor, there are certain stores I know I can turn to when I need a dose of vitamin sea. Below, I’m breaking down the best resortwear brands to shop from ahead of this summer.
Cult Gaia
If you want to be that girl on vacation, you’ve got to check out Cult Gaia. From slinky backless dresses to embellished accessories and everything in between, this is the brand I recommend for resort occasionwear, such as a dress for a beach wedding (whether you’re a guest or the bride).
Alémais
For statement prints and palettes that pop, Alémais is an editor favorite. I personally love the coordinated separates and it’s latest collaboration with sunglasses brand Le Specs.
Farm Rio
This is likely the brand you think of when you think resortwear. Tropical prints and funky patterns are what Farm Rio does best.
Same Los Angeles
This swimwear brand, which also does ready-to-wear, is a personal favorite. I especially love the minidresses from Same Los Angeles.
J.Crew
No, it isn’t really a resortwear brand, per se, but J.Crewis a one-stop shop for all your summer vacation needs. Whether you need new jean shorts or a cover-up, you can find it here—and for a great price, too.
Asta Resort
Another brand beloved by It girls is Asta Resort, where you’ll find semi-sheer staples, delicately crocheted essentials, and Instagram-worthy ensembles.
Staud
Staud does a lot more than just resortwear, but its vacation capsules are so good I just had to include it. Expect surfboard-shaped clutches, beaded minidresses that are perfect for al fresco dining, and your new favorite sandals.
Silvia Tcherassi
Colombian designer Silvia Tcherassi creates clothes that look the way being on a beach retreat feels. And I don’t know about you, but that’s my permanent mood.
