A massive life science incubator designed to accelerate biotech innovation in Nevada was officially launched Tuesday in Las Vegas.
Roseman University of Health Sciences announced the launch of Roseman Bioventures, a 120,000-square-foot facility located on its Summerlin campus that will serve as one of the largest dedicated life science incubators in the Intermountain West.
“Roseman Bioventures is a new initiative of Roseman University dedicating 120,000 square feet of space to attract early- to mid-stage startup companies in the life sciences — biotech, medtech, medical device AI, the pharmaceutical and nutriceutical industries,” Jeff Talbot, Roseman’s vice president for research, told the Review-Journal after a news conference announcing the initiative. “Our mission is to advance health care here in Nevada through bringing innovation and technology. It’s a great time to do business in Nevada and we’re excited to be a part of that.”
The facility will provide companies with turnkey laboratories, research infrastructure, regulatory guidance and connections to investors and industry partners, accelerating the path to commercialization.
Roseman Bioventures is a progression from the school’s Bioscience Collaborative, which has already attracted companies including Heligenics, Regenicin, VenaVitals and WAVR Technologies to the Summerlin campus.
The launch comes as the U.S. life sciences sector continues to expand beyond traditional coastal hubs. Nevada’s pro-business environment, no state income tax and fast-growing population have positioned the state as an emerging destination for life science investment and innovation.
“The startup ecosystem here in the Las Vegas valley is red hot,” said former UNLV president Len Jessup, managing director of Desert Forge Ventures, a local venture capital firm that currently invests in several startups at Roseman Bioventures. “It lacked capital and now we’re providing that with the venture capital fund Desert Forge Ventures, and Roseman is now providing world-class, first-class space, especially for biotech companies. Two of the companies that we’ve invested in are incubating here.
“Now they’re providing that missing ingredient, the critical infrastructure and space for biotech. This facility is unparalleled. This would be a class A space in San Francisco.”
Roseman Bioventures also has partnerships with Frax Finance, Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development, Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance and BioTech Vegas. J.P. Morgan is a supporting sponsor providing financial, banking and investment insights to member start-up companies.
Roseman University is a nonprofit private institution with campuses in Summerlin, Henderson and South Jordan, Utah that provides post-secondary training for those seeking a career in health care. The university launched a four-year doctor of medicine program last July on its Summerlin campus.
