Quincy Together meeting continues to bring community engagement

QUINCY (WGEM) – The third Quincy Together meeting had another large turnout with the focus on finances.

The third Quincy Together meeting was held at Quincy High School Tuesday night. The meetings are technically not done through the Quincy Public School District and are hosted by volunteers.

“The goal is to get feedback from the community members,” said Quincy Together Co-Chairman Ryan Sparks.

Unlike a school board meeting, comments made by the public can be responded to. At Tuesday’s meeting, district finances were the main point of discussion.

“No one likes to talk about the potential for increasing taxes, so that’s why we want to come up with other solutions,” Sparks said.

Sparks added the group setting and breaking into small groups promotes engagement within the community versus just having a public comments section.

“This is very much two hours where it’s focused solely on that with interaction,” he explained.

Quincy Together will host two more meetings on April 21 and May 19. After the final meeting, the organization will gather the feedback from the community and present it to the Quincy School Board.
