The Science Mill in Johnson City is giving young scientists plenty to explore this April, with three special events plus more than 50 ongoing exhibits. From toddlers planting seeds to older students meeting working scientists, the museum’s spring lineup spans a wide range of ages and interests.
Homeschool Day: STEM Career Day
Wednesday, April 8 • 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Designed especially for homeschool families, students will meet professionals in organizations working across fields like space science, biology, and environmental stewardship. Featured exhibitors include: The Space Sciences Division of Southwest Research Institute, The University of Texas at Austin Department of Biology, Guadalupe and Blanco River Authority, and Highland Lakes Master Naturalists.
Mini Makers: Seeds to Sprouts
Thursday, April 16 • 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.
Young learners (ages 5 and under) explore how plants grow and how greenhouses help them thrive in different environments. Each child will create their own “Greenhouse in a Bag” to take home and watch their seed sprout and grow.
Wild Wings and Busy Things
Saturday, April 18 • 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Families explore the world of pollinators and the plants. Guests can plant chia seeds to grow a mini pollinator garden, create a plant press to preserve flowers like real botanists, and design a Pollinator Palace to give solitary bees a safe place to nest.
All three events are included with General Admission, which also covers access to the museum’s other exhibits.
The Science Mill is located at 101 South Lady Bird Lane in Johnson City and is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Updated schedules and ticket information are available at www.sciencemill.org.
