CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – A Charlottesville-based organization is asking for support to help hundreds of students begin building financial skills and savings at a young age.
The Mahogany and Friends Foundation is working to sponsor 300 students through its “Budget Does It” program at the Boys and Girls Club of Central Virginia.
The program provides hands-on financial lessons, teaching students how to budget, save, and make informed money decisions. Each participant also receives twenty dollars to start their own savings, giving them an early opportunity to apply what they learn.
To help fund the initiative, the foundation is hosting a fundraiser on April 9 and April 10 at Get Air in Charlottesville. A portion of proceeds from those dates will go directly toward supporting the program.
“You mention Mahogany and Friends, 20% of your proceeds will go directly to our Budget Does It workshop. This is a great way to get involved and help equip our next generation with financial literacy,” said Jasiyah Ruiz and Janasha Bradford with the Mahogany and Friends Foundation.
Organizers say sponsorships help cover the cost of materials, interactive learning tools, and the savings incentive provided to each student.
Those interested in supporting the program can donate online here.
The foundation says community support plays a key role in expanding access to financial education and helping students build confidence in managing money early.
