Oxford teacher Scott Wooddell has been named Computer Science Teacher of the Year by Project Lead The Way, a national STEM nonprofit.
Oxford teacher Scott Wooddell has received national recognition for his career-long support for his students, reports Keith Jones for NBC10 Philadelphia.
Wooddell, a computer science teacher at Oxford Area High School, was recently named Computer Science Teacher of the Year by Project Lead The Way, a national nonprofit focused on K-12 STEM education.
The award recognizes outstanding STEM educators across the country and their impact on students. Students, staff, and administrators all gathered to celebrate Wooddell with a celebratory ceremony, which included remarks from students and a visit from the Project Lead The Way CEO.
Wooddell has worked as an educator for 33 years, teaching a range of math and computer science courses. After teaching in Maryland for over a decade, he has taught in Oxford since 2005.
Wooddell’s passion and knowledge inspire students to excel in his classes and pursue STEM careers after graduating. Outside of the classroom, he also sponsors the school’s Aerial Drone Team, the Academic Competition Team, and the school’s Future Business Leaders of America chapter.
Oxford Area High School plans to expand their course offerings following the recognition. Additional PTLW courses will be available, with Wooddell teaching a course on artificial intelligence to create even more opportunities for students.
