On paper, gaming laptops sound like the dream machine for playing on the go. You have a fully decked-out machine that lets you play whatever you want, wherever you are. Then the laptop’s battery goes dead in an hour, and you’re left with nothing.
Fortunately, technology is getting to the point where we can have hardware that is both powerful and battery-efficient, and Razer knows it. The company has put its newest gaming laptop, the Razer Blade 16, up for sale, and it’s sporting a new CPU that both saves on energy usage and adds more processing power to the mix.
Affordable gaming laptops are a thing of the past, so you should get a Steam Deck instead
Good, affordable gaming laptops are a dying breed and require enough sacrifices in specs, you’d be better off with Steam Deck.
The Razer Blade 16 is thin, mighty, and won’t die on you mid-game
The holy trinity of good gaming laptops
As reported by The Verge, the Razer Blade 16 is now available for purchase. The star of the show is the powerful Intel Core Ultra 9 386H under the hood, which is a move away from the AMD base Razer used with the last generation of Blade laptops. Razer claims that this swap to Intel’s Ultra 9 range should make the CPU 60% more battery efficient while providing 33% better performance, which sounds like a win-win if you ask me.
Other than that beefy CPU, we’re also looking at up to 64GB of LPDDR5X-9600MHz RAM, soldered onto the board. Razer claims that this is the “fastest available memory” out there, and I’m inclined to believe it. You can also give your laptop up to an Nvidia GTX 5090 and 2TB of SSD space if you want to really go all-in.
If you’re interested, you can take a look at the laptop over on the Razer website, with prices starting at $3,499.99. At the time of writing, it seems Razer is also doing a special offer where you’ll score a copy of Resident Evil: Requiem and one month of an Xbox Game Pass subscription, so you have something to play on your brand new kit.
