ATHENS – Greece’s Armed Forces and Security Forces parade began shortly after 11:00 a.m. today in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, marking the anniversary of March 25, 1821, in the presence of President Konstantinos Tasoulas.
Earlier, at 6:21 a.m., the day’s events opened with a 21-gun salute fired from Lycabettus Hill, followed by reveille performed by military and security forces bands along central streets of Athens.
At 8:00 a.m., the National Flag was officially raised at the Acropolis.
At 10:00 a.m., a thanksgiving service was held at the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Annunciation in Athens, officiated by Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens and All Greece. One minute later, another 21-gun salute was fired from Lycabettus Hill.
At 11:00 a.m., the president laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
The events will conclude at 6:41 p.m. with the official lowering of the National Flag at the Acropolis, accompanied by a 21-gun salute from Lycabettus Hill.
