Bavarian Loan Works: Sieb scores in Europe, Bayern Munich loanees prep for international duty


Bayern Munich loanees were again busy with another week of European action. Unfortunately most of them have played their last continental match of the season and have to focus on domestic competitions. Armindo Sieb scored a goal to help Mainz continue their impressive Conference League run. See how the midweek went for the others active in Europe and how everyone did on the weekend. Each loanee with a reported call up has been added noted below. We will run a condensed version next week with each loanee’s national team action.

FC Bayern Munich

There are 11 players from on loan from the first team.

Germany – Bundesliga

There are three players from the first team on loan to the German Bundesliga: Alexander Nübel, Arijon Ibrahimović, and Armando Sieb.

Alexander Nübel – VfB Stuttgart

Nübel start in goal for Stuttgart’s return leg in the Europa League. They travelled to Portugal to face FC Porto, trailing 2-1 on aggregate. Nübel saved two shots on the day to try to keep them in the tie but also conceded two goals. Stuttgart could not net a goal of their own and the fell 2-0 on the day — 4-1 on aggregate — to crash out of the competition.

Stuttgart returned to Germany but were still away from home to Augsburg on Sunday. Nübel started in goal and again conceded two goals in this match but this time recorded five saves throughout the match. The biggest difference was the offense that supported Nübel. They scored five goals and cruised to a 5-2 away win.

Nübel was called into the Germany national team for this weekend’s friendlies with Switzerland and Ghana. Stuttgart will host Dortmund in a top-3 clash after the international break.

Arijon Ibrahimović – 1. FC Heidenheim

Ibrahimović was not in the matchday squad for Heidenheim’s 3-3 home draw against Bayer Leverkusen.

Ibrahimović has been called into the Germany U21s for their U21 Euro qualifiers this weekend. Heidenheim will travel to face Borussia Mönchengladbach after the break.

Armindo Sieb – 1. FSV Mainz 05

Mainz hosted Sigma Olomouc from Czechia in the second leg of the Conference League round of 16. The first match was scoreless so there was everything to play for in Mainz on Thursday. Sieb was on the bench to start and came into the match in the 73rd minute with his team up 1-0. Minutes later the guests went down to 10 men. In the 82nd minute, Sieb scored a goal to put the match away. Mainz won 2-0 to move onto the quarterfinals. Mainz will face Strasbourg in the next round.

Sieb was on the bench again for Sunday’s home match against Frankfurt. He did not make it onto the pitch for the 2-1 home win.

Mainz will travel to face Hoffenheim after the break.

England – Premier League

There are two players on loan to the English Premier League: João Palhinha and Jonah Kusi-Asare.

João Palhinha – Tottenham

Palhinha was out for Tottenham’s final Champions League match with a concussion. Spurs won 3-2 but crashed out 7-5 on aggregate after last week’s disaster in Madrid.

Palhinha was back on the bench but did not make it into the match for Spurs’ 3-0 loss against direct relegation rivals, Nottingham Forrest.

Spurs will not play again until April 12 when they travel to face Sunderland.

Jonah Kusi-Asare – Fulham

Kusi-Asare was not in the matchday squad for Fulham’s 3-1 home win against Burnley.

Fulham will travel to face Liverpool on April 11.

England – Championship

Daniel Peretz is the only player on loan to England’s Championship.

Daniel Peretz – Southampton

Peretz started in goal for Southampton on Wednesday against Norwich City. He recorded an impressive seven saves to keep a shutout. His teammates only scored one goal but it was enough to earn the 1-0 league win at home.

Southampton hosted Oxford United on Sunday. Peretz had another clean sheet but only needed one save to make it happen this week. His attackers netted two goals this time to earn another home win, 2-0.

Peretz was called into the Israel national team for their friendly against Georgia on March 26. Southampton host Arsenal in the FA Cup quarterfinal after the break.

Italy – Serie A

Bryan Zaragoza is the only player on loan to Serie A.

Bryan Zaragoza – AS Roma

Roma host Bologna in the second leg of the Europa League Round of 16. The first leg finished 1-1. Zaragoza was on the bench and saw a six goal thriller for the 90 minutes unfold. Regulation ended 3-3 and forced extra time. He entered the match in the 109th minute and unfortunately saw the guests take the lead just two minutes later. He was able to create a chance for his teammates to shoot, but it was not enough to find an equalizer. Roma crashed out after a 4-3 home loss — 5-4 on aggregate.

Zaragoza was on the bench for Roma’s league match against Lecce. He did not make it onto the pitch for the 1-0 home win.

Roma travel to face Inter Milan after the break.

Türkiye – Super Lig

Sacha Boey is the only player on loan to the Turkish Super Lig.

Sacha Boey – Galatasaray

Boey started for Galatasaray in the Champions League second leg at Anfield against Liverpool. They were up 1-0 after last week’s home win, but that lead only lasted 25 minutes. Boey was unable to contribute anything in the attack but helped keep the aggregate score even by halftime. He had three tackles — including one as the last defender. He also had a goal line clearance, blocked two other shots, and recorded two recoveries. Despite this performance, Boey was subbed off at halftime. He had to watch his teammates allow three more goals and fall 4-0 on the day — 4-1 on aggregate.

Galatasaray will travel to face Trabzonspor in league play after the break.

Switzerland – Super League

Lovro Zvonarek is the only player on loan from the first team to the Swiss Super League.

Lovro Zvonarek – Grasshopper

Zvonarek made his return to the bench for Grasshopper’s away match against Servette. He was called into action earlier than he probably expected when he was subbed in in the 24th minute. The home team was already up 4-0 at this point and had missed a penalty that could have made it 5-0. He only had one shot attempt — on goal from long range — but did not create any chances for his teammates to shoot. He helped limit the damage on defense with four tackles, a clearance, and two recoveries. Servette only scored one more and won easily 5-0.

Zvonarek was called into the Croatia U21 for their U21 Euro qualifiers. Grasshopper will host Sion after the break.

Germany – 2. Bundesliga

There are two players from the first team on loan to the 2. Bundesliga: Maurice Krattenmacher and Tarek Buchman.

Maurice Krattenmacher – Hertha BSC

Krattenmacher was on the bench for Hertha’s 5-2 road win against Fortuna Düsseldorf but did not make it into the match.

Hertha will be on the road against Dynamo Dresden after the break.

Tarek Buchman – 1. FC Nürnberg

Buchman was on the bench for Nürnberg’s 3-0 win at home against Kaiserslautern but did not make it onto the pitch.

Felipe Chávez is the only player on loan from the second team to a Bundesliga team.

Felipe Chávez – 1. FC Köln

Chávez started on the bench for Köln as they took on Gladbach at home. He came into the match in the 70th minute with this team down 3-2. He had one shot attempt — blocked from the top of the box. Although he did not complete a pass, Köln was able to find a late equalizer and then see the match out for a 3-3 draw at home.

Köln will travel to face Eintracht Frankfurt after the break.

Germany – 2. Bundesliga

There are four players on loan from the second team in the 2. Bundesliga: Noël Aséko, Javier Fernández, Grayson Dettoni, and Paul Scholl.

Noël Aséko – Hannover 96

Aséko started and played the full 90 minutes for Hannover at home against Braunschweig. He did not have a shot attempt but was credited with a big chance created. He also helped on the defensive side with three tackles, two clearances, two interceptions, and four recoveries to help his team keep the shutout. Hannover found one goal and won at home 1-0.

Aséko was called into the Germany U21s for their U21 Euro qualifiers this weekend. Hannover will host Elversberg after the break.

Javier Fernández – 1. FC Nürnberg

Fernández was on the bench for Nürnberg’s home match against Kaiserslautern. He came into the match in the 66th minute with his team up 2-0. He did not have a shot attempt nor a chance created for his teammates to shoot, but completed 93% of his passes. Nürnberg added another goal and cruised to a 3-0 win.

Nürnberg will travel to face Eintracht Braunschweig after the break.

Grayson Dettoni – SV Darmstadt 98

Dettoni was not in the matchday squad for Darmstadt’s 1-1 home draw against Schalke 04.

Darmstadt will travel to face Arminia Bielfeld after the break.

Paul Scholl – Karlsruher SC

Scholl was on the bench for KSC for their 3-1 home win against Greuther Fürth but did not make it into the match.

Germany – 3. Liga

Max Schmitt is the only player on loan in the 3. Liga.

Max Schmitt – SSV Ulm 1846

Schmitt was benched after three straight Ulm losses. Ulm snapped the losing streak with a 1-1 draw away to Energie Cottbus. The draw continues an eight-match winless streak.

Ulm will host SC Verl after the international break.

Germany – Regionalliga

There are two players on loan in the Regionalliga Südwest: Benedikt Wimmer and David Emmanuel and three players on loan to the Regionalliga Bayern: Gibson Adu, Richard Meier, and Jason Eckl.

Benedikt Wimmer – SV Sandhausen

Wimmer may be back to full strength. He started for Sandhausen against SV Eintracht-Trier and played 90 minutes while helping his team on defense to keep a shutout. The match ended in a scoreless draw.

Sandhausen will play through the international break with a match on Saturday away to Kickers Offenbach.

David Emmanuel – Hessen Kassel

Emmanuel was not in the matchday squad for Kassel’s 1-0 away win against SV Stuttgarter Kickers.

Kassel will face SGV Freiburg on Saturday.

Gibson Adu – Unterhaching

Adu did not appear in either recent match for Unterhaching.

Richard Meier – Unterhaching

Meier was not in the matchday squad for Unterhaching’s 1-0 home win against VfB Eichstatt. He started and played 62 minutes in the road match against SpVgg Ansbach. Unterhaching fell 1-0.

Eckl did not appear in either recent match for Unterhaching.

Switzerland – Super League

Johnathan Asp Jensen is the only player from the second team on loan to the Swiss Super League.

Johnathan Asp Jensen – Grasshopper

Asp started for Grasshopper against Servette on the road. He had one shot — on target — and created two chances for his teammates to shoot. He was also credited with an error that led to one of Servette’s early goals. He was subbed off in the 66th minute. Servette added one more goal after he left and won 4-0.

Grasshopper will host Sion after the break.

Austria – Bundesliga

There are two players on loan to the Austrian Bundesliga: Maximillian Hennig and Jussef Nasarawe.

Maximillian Hennig – TSV Hartberg

Hennig was not in the matchday squad for TSV Hartberg’s 1-0 home loss to Austria Wien.

Hartberg will host RB Salzburg after the international break.

Jussef Nasrawe – SV Ried

Nasrawe started for Ried on the road to last place BW Linz. He saw his team go up two goals in the first 18 minutes, but go down to ten men after a teammate received two yellows in seven minutes. Nasrawe was not very productive in the first half — no shots, no chances created, and only 70% pass completion. He was subbed off at half time and would have to watch his team blow the lead in the second half and fall 3-2.

Italy – Serie D

Magnus Dalpiaz is the only player on loan to Italy’s Serie D.

Magnus Dalpiaz – Milan Futuro

Milan’s U23s drew 2-2 against Sondrio this weekend. They will face Real Calepara on Sunday.

FC Bayern Munich Frauen

There is one player on loan from the women’s team.

Brazil – Brasileirão Feminino

Ana Guzmán is the only player on loan to Brazil’s Brasileirão Feminino.

Ana Guzmán – SE Palmerias

Guzmán started for Palmerias and played the full 90 minutes against Vitoria. She usually plays at outside back but played centerback for this match. Stats are not available to see her individual performance, but she helped her team earn a shutout and a 6-0 win.

Palmerias will face Sao Paulo on Friday.
