In its preliminary assessment, the European Commission (EC) announced on Thursday that it had agreed to a December double request by the Greek authorities for a payment amounting to €1.18 billion from the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF).
This is the 7th fund request and the 6th request for loans from the RRF, which has a total of 26 milestones.
The European Commission’s approval clears the way for the disbursement of Greece’s latest dual funding request under the RRF “Greece 2.0” recovery plan, bringing the total number of completed milestones to 204 and cumulative payouts to €24.58 billion—more than 68% of the program’s overall budget.
The 22 milestones tied to the seventh grant request reflect progress across key projects and reforms aimed at improving daily life. In public health, works have been completed to renovate nine hospitals, alongside energy upgrades, modernization and the creation of chronic disease units at 15 health centers nationwide.
In social protection, authorities have rolled out a personal assistant scheme supporting more than 1,500 people with disabilities, while 847,000 prepaid cards have been issued to social benefit recipients.
Efforts to modernize and digitize public services include the deployment of new digital equipment at citizen service centers (KEP) across 269 municipalities, the introduction of updated IT systems and equipment for tax administration services, and the simplification and digitization of procedures for driving licenses and vehicle registration.
In the energy sector, reforms have been advanced to support the development of renewable energy, as well as frameworks for carbon capture, use and storage, and the rollout of dynamic electricity pricing contracts.
