The New York Knicks are gearing up for what should be a very entertaining showdown on the road against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday evening.
Heading into the 2025-26 NBA season, the Knicks were widely expected to be a favorite in the Eastern Conference. At the time of this writing, they hold a 48-26 record and are currently the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference behind the Detroit Pistons and Boston Celtics.
New York has lived up to the hype of being a top Eastern Conference contender. However, there is still work to be done in order to reach its goal of an NBA Finals run.
With that being said, the Knicks have received a major injury update ahead of their matchup against the Thunder.
New York Knicks Get New Miles McBride Injury Update
According to team insider Ian Begley of SNY, guard Miles McBride is close to making his return to the court. He could be available against Oklahoma City on Sunday.
McBride has missed some time after having surgery on January 28 to fix a sports hernia.
“Some good news for Knicks after bad loss in CHA: Miles McBride remains on track to return to the court during the current road trip, possibly as soon as Sunday,” Begley wrote on X.
“McBride was ruled out of CHA game on Friday a day before tipoff; Sunday’s game vs OKC has not yet been ruled out for him, per SNY sources. McBride is rehabbing from surgery to repair a sports hernia and has been out since Jan. 28.”
Getting McBride back on the court will be a big help for New York. He has been a top rotation player and has also received some starts this season as well.
What Will the Knicks Be Getting Back When McBride Returns?
So far this season, the 25-year-old guard has played in 35 games and made 14 starts. He has averaged 12.9 points, 2.8 assists, and 2.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 43.4 percent from the floor and 42 percent from three-point distance.
At 25 years old, McBride is mostly known for his ability to stretch the floor. Having his three-point shooting ability back in the lineup will be a major plus for the Knicks.
With just eight games remaining in the regular season, New York also needs to get back to full health for the playoffs.
Expect to hear more news about McBride’s status for the Thunder game in the near future. Hopefully, he will be able to make his return to the Knicks and improve the team’s three-point shooting and overall depth.
