Spring/Summer movie season ready to bloom

As Spring springs into Summer, Hollywood hotly anticipates its biggest season when schools are closed and every day can be a See a Movie in a Theater day. These are significant upcoming highlights (with the usual caveat that dates may change):

“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie:” Following its billion-dollar-grossing predecessor, this Nintendo-inspired entry will once again let the beloved, mustachioed brothers rule.  April 1

“Michael:” Michael Jackson’s troubled legacy will have little impact on the many who have made upbeat stage versions of his story on Broadway and the West End run for years. Those eager to experience that music and those moves on the big screen should be enthralled.  April 24

“The Devil Wears Prada 2:” This could be the rare case where the sequel, buoyed by the return of Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, could easily surpass $325 million, the original’s global box-office haul. May 1

“Mortal Kombat 2:” The sequel to the 2021 live-action video game’s adaptation has Karl Urban back as Johnny Cage and a hyped super “intense” 27 choreographed fights. Kombat king!  May 8

“The Mandalorian and Grogu:” It’s been 7 years since a “Star Wars” spin-off has played not on Disney+ but in theaters. In that time via the streaming “The Mandalorian” series, Grogu, aka Baby Yoda, became a star. Now, the fans await.  May 22

“Disclosure Day:” An alien invasion, the Steven Spielberg way? That’s the promise with a story from the filmmaker and a killer cast led by Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, Colin Firth, Josh O’Connor, Eve Hewson and Wyatt Russell.  May 12

“Toy Story 5:” Pixar has already scored with the surprising smash of its original fantasy “Hoppers,” so this new Pixar chapter in the long-running “Toy” series is practically a slam dunk.  May 19

“Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow:” If Superman could come back with a smash, why can’t Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El fly just as high? Notice how the title now flips the idea that Kara is but a kid. May 26
