NEW YORK, NEW YORK – NOVEMBER 05: Anthony Edwards #5 of the Minnesota Timberwolves warms up before the game against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on November 05, 2025 in New York City.

Anthony Edwards has missed the past six games for the Minnesota Timberwolves with a knee injury, and while he sat out in their Saturday loss to the Detroit Pistons, a new injury update and potential return date for the superstar have been revealed.

According to team insider Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, Edwards has the chance to return for the Timberwolves on Monday for their game against the Dallas Mavericks.

That contest was previously one of a few potential return dates for the franchise star, and after missing the weekend matchup against the Pistons, Monday is only starting to feel more and more like the most realistic game for a return for the shooting guard.

In 58 games this season, the star shooting guard is averaging a career-high and third in the NBA 29.5 points, along with 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists on 49.2% shooting from the field.

Edwards has been out for 12 days with what is officially described as right knee inflammation. The injury isn’t reported to be too serious, and sidelining the 24-year-old looked to be a precautionary measure in hopes of making sure he was healthy for another deep postseason run.

But while both Krawczynski and Shams Charania had reported earlier in the week that the Timberwolves’ Saturday game against the Pistons was a potential return date, that has now shifted.

According to the insider from The Athletic, Monday’s contest in Dallas now feels like the most likely game he’ll finally get back on the court for.

“All signs are pointing to Edwards returning Monday in Dallas, giving the Timberwolves a needed jolt as the playoffs near,” he wrote. “Edwards has been doing individual work at the team’s practice facility this week and was cleared by the team Friday for all on-court basketball activities.”

The Timberwolves couldn’t buy a bucket against the Pistons. They left Target Center with all signs pointing to their biggest bucket getter’s imminent return.

Krawczysnki has been reporting numerous updates on the star over the past few days, and while he was the first to say the Edwards was a ‘fast healer‘ and that the knee injury wasn’t expected to be a major concern, he’s now all but confirming the All-NBA candidate is set to return on Monday.

“He still has to go through a workout Sunday and shootaround Monday before being cleared for game action, but his teammates walked out of Target Center on Saturday evening believing they would see him in uniform sooner rather than later,” Krawczysnki added.

While his initial timeline for recovery was one to two weeks, coming back on Monday would be just about two weeks after Edwards was initially ruled out.

Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards will be re-evaluated in 1 to 2 weeks due to right knee inflammation.

He is currently at risk of missing out on end-of-season awards based on the NBA’s 65-game rule, which has come under recent scrutiny, but Minnesota will need him back as they are currently in the middle of a tight race for home-court advantage in the Western Conference standings.

Minnesota Timberwolves Injury Report

Along with Edwards, the Timberwolves were without Ayo Dosunmu and Jaden McDaniels for their Saturday loss to Detroit.

The two had practiced with the team on Friday, and while originally questionable, each was later downgraded to out.

Dosunmu is facing a calf injury, one that Krawczynski described as ‘concerning.’ He missed the Timberwolves’ overtime thriller against the Houston Rockets, and hasn’t played in a week.

As for McDaniels, he left the win over Houston with cramps, and while he initially said he didn’t expect to miss any time, he later found himself on the team’s injury report.

While the two key players for Minnesota were sidelined over the weekend, they are both currently listed as day-to-day and aren’t expected to stay on the injury report for an extended period.

Currently, the Timberwolves are 45-29 and fifth in the West. While getting healthy before the postseason remains a top priority, the latest Edwards injury update signals good news for a team that has relied on its franchise star all season, as he’s having the best year of his career, and has rarely been sidelined for more than a week at a time through his first NBA campaigns.

Minnesota has eight games left on its schedule.
