On Campus
At 7:30 p.m. Monday, the ISU Chamber Orchestra and professor Andrew Bishop on trumpet will hold a concert featuring works by Mozart, Albinoni and Elgar. It will be held in the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall. Admission is free for ISU students and youth under 18. For the general public, admission will be $10.
The university will be hosting several home games this week for softball and tennis. On Tuesday, Softball will play against the University of Northern Iowa in a white-out theme game. Later this week, they will play the University of Arizona on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the theme will be Gold Rules! and all games will be at 4 p.m. except for Saturday, which will be at noon. Also on Friday, the Tennis team will play the University of Cincinnati at 4 p.m. The volleyball game against the University of Minnesota has been canceled.
- NASA ISGC Artemis II Innovation Showcase
At 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, those who are interested can enjoy an event centered around rockets. There will be a presentation about the Artemis II mission as well as a NASA film screening. Snacks, activities and demonstrations will all be available to attendees. The event will be held in Howe Hall.
The College of Design’s design studies 1020 studio will be showcasing its projects on a walk around campus Friday. The procession will start at 1:10 p.m. at the College of Design and finish around 2 p.m.
The Maintenance Shop will be hosting Open Mic Night Tuesday at 8 p.m. Performances are limited to 10 minutes or two songs and slots are reserved for current ISU students. At 8 p.m. Thursday, enjoy a show featuring bands Blue Fairy, Forest and Bed. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time for $16 or $12 with an ISU student ID. Tickets can be purchased the day of the show, but there will be a $2 increase. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
This week, students can enjoy “One Battle After Another” in Carver 101. Admission is free, and showings will be at 7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.
On Friday at 1 and 6 p.m., the School of Classical Ballet & Dance will be performing Peter Pan at Stephens Auditorium. Ticket prices depend on seating choice.
Off Campus
Enjoy a story by Joe DiPietro about family, relationships and love. This week, there will be showings on April 2-4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ames Community Theater (ACTORS).
For some food, drinks and music, go to Cornbred BBQ in Ames from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. This will be the first live music event of the season.
Listen to two Iowa-born bands at 7 p.m. Friday at Alluvial Brewing. ERF is a band from Des Moines that combines elements of many music genres, and Alleygrass is from Ames. They play songs influenced by bluegrass, folk rock and Americana styles. Seating is limited and admission ranges from $9 to $12 depending on age.
Attend various events at this modern-day apothecary. At 5:15 p.m. Friday, there will be a perfume blending workshop where you can create your own perfume to take home. At 11 a.m. Saturday, you can build your own plant terrarium and learn how to take care of it. Sign up to attend online; prices vary by size. Both events will last for one hour.
