One of the benefits of subscribing to multiple streaming services is the addition of new movies every week. That’s especially true this week with the start of a new month. From blockbusters and comedies to thrillers and horrors, there are options for every cinephile.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
The Rock and Kevin Hart enter the game
For the millennial generation, their version of Jumanji involves Robin Williams, a magical board game, and a pack of monkeys. For the younger generation, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart take the torch from the late Williams for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
Instead of a board, Jumanji is now a video game system that sucks four teens into the game. The teens are transformed into their avatars—Dr. Xander “Smolder” Bravestone (Johnson), Franklin “Mouse” Finbar (Hart), Professor Sheldon “Shelly” Oberon (Jack Black), and Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan). Like the first movie, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle chronicles the group’s attempts to escape the game. Being a jungle setting, you can expect wild animal attacks, most notably from a hippo. Reboots typically don’t work, but this one is all in good fun. Plus, I give them respect for paying tribute to the late Williams.

Pizza Movie
This isn’t Hawkins
Gaten Matarazzo has spent the last decade in Hawkins playing Dustin Henderson in Stranger Things. Now that one of Netflix’s most popular shows is over, Matarazzo is moving on to new projects. His first starring role will be in Pizza Movie, a new Hulu Original by directors Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher, better known as the sketch comedy group BriTANicK.
Two college kids—Jack (Matarazzo) and Monty (Sean Giambrone)—must get to the lobby of their dorm to pick up pizza. The only problem is the hallucinogenic drugs in their system causes absolute chaos. Pizza Movie is the stoner comedy fans have been clamoring for. It’s going to be absolutely ridiculous. This is the type of movie you watch with a bunch of friends on a Friday night before going out.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2
The animatronics fight back
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is a prime example of how a passionate video game fanbase can drive box office success. The first movie received a day-and-date release—Peacock and theaters—and it still grossed nearly $300 million. This time around, the sequel went right to theaters and grossed $239 million. That’s a testament to its fans, who adore the video franchise.
It’s been a year since the events of the first movie, and Abby (Piper Rubio) wants to reunite with the animatronics from Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. This poor kid doesn’t realize those robots are using her as a pawn in their elaborate scheme. These animatronics still creep me out, even if the reviews are poor. Still, these movies are made for the fans, so if you fall under that category, enjoy it.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning
Tom Cruise chooses to accept
How Tom Cruise survives these movies is beyond me. Considering this man will hang off planes and hold his breath underwater for long periods of time, there has to be a higher power protecting him. The ghost of movie stunts? Whoever is looking out for Mr. Cruise, I thank you. Cruise’s most dangerous stunts to date played out in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
After the events of Dead Reckoning, Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his team must race to destroy the Entity, the all-powerful artificial intelligence creation. I was disappointed by the first hour of this movie because it played like a “greatest hits” mixtape. Too much nostalgia can be bad. However, the final 90 minutes show why Cruise is one of our best entertainers. First, he successfully executed the underwater scenes. For the grand finale, Cruise hung on for dear life on a biplane. This man is crazy, and I love him for it.

Alien: Romulus
The xenomorph rears its ugly head
You would think by now that humans would learn to stay away from the aliens? Then again, if they stopped, we wouldn’t have the Alien franchise, one of my favorite cinematic series. The majority of the Alien series is heading to HBO Max on April 1. This includes the two crown jewels, Alien and Aliens. Two days later, the most recent entry, Alien: Romulus, will join the group on the streamer.
We’re only two years removed from Alien: Romulus, and it’s quickly rising in my Alien rankings. Set between the events of the first two films, Rain (Cailee Spaeny), her android, Andy (David Jonsson), and her friends head to an abandoned Weyland-Yutani station in search of parts for their long journey. Unfortunately for the group, the station becomes a house of horrors, with facehuggers and xenomorphs at every turn. Romulus gives me everything I want in an alien movie—action, violence, and a fierce heroine.

The great thing about streaming is that you should never run out of options. For example, Tubi, a free ad-supported streaming service, is an excellent option for those looking to save some money. With movies like 50 First Dates and Blue Chips, Tubi should be added to your weekend lineup. Elsewhere, Netflix offers an entire section dedicated to Oscar-winning movies, such as Godzilla Minus One and 1917.
