Plus, there’s new details on Sokka too
After coming back from being canceled, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game has quickly risen up the ranks to become one of the most anticipated titles of the genre this year.
Following the most recent Avatar character and release date announcements from the Evo Awards 2026, Gameplay Group International has revealed interesting new gameplay details for some of the fighters who weren’t shown before, including best girl Azula.
We are joking a little bit on that considering the Avatar series is full of awesome ladies who could rightfully be best girl, but anyways, Azula is shaping up to be pretty unique in the cast.
As detailed in the developer article on PlayStation Blog, the daughter of Fire Lord Ozai apparently has two distinct fighting styles in the upcoming game.
Azula has her Focused Mode wherein her movements are more calculated and precise along with gaining access to her grounded fireball.
In this state, the princess can leave behind oil traps with her other specials that she can ignite at will.
And then there’s her Firelord Mode that lets her “fully embrace chaos” and focus entirely on overwhelming power.
They note that Azula’s movement becomes more erratic, which can be seen in her completely different animations, and it transforms her abilities to allow her to more easily get in on opponents.
It’s not explained, however, whether players can freely shift between Azula’s modes or if other factors in the battle will make her change out of their control.

On top of that, the team also shares gameplay details for Sokka too as another unique member of the cast since he doesn’t have bending powers like the others.
Sokka can apparently cancel most of his normal attacks into Flow options to make him more slippery and unpredictable though it means he cannot combo into C attacks as the rest of the cast can.
His gameplay is focused on mobility and catching the opponent off guard using his mobility as well as his trusty club, Meteorite Sword and boomerang.
The game will launch with 12 characters in total between Aang, Korra, Zuko, Katara, Toph, Sokka and Azula along with the newly revealed Zaheer, Fire Lord Ozai and Avatar Kyoshi.
Plus it looks like Avatar State Aang and Korra will be seperate characters as well to fill out the roster until the DLC fighters come.
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is scheduled to release on July 2 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC for just $30.
