‘Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody’ to open off Broadway

The theatrical adaptation of the hit hockey romance TV series previously had a sold-out, eight-performance concert run and will now have a full staging.

Grab your ginger ale! Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody will open off Broadway for eight weeks only this spring at the 6th Floor Theater at 530 West 27th St. (formerly The McKittrick Hotel). Performances run from May 12 to June 28, with opening night on May 26.

Inspired by the hit TV show, Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody follows the forbidden romance between professional hockey players Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. The musical had a sold-out, eight-performance concert run at the Laurie Beechman Theatre earlier this year, and it will now have its first fully staged production.

The cast of Broadway stars includes Jay Armstrong Johnson (Parade) as Ilya Rozanov and Jimin Moon (Sunset Boulevard) as Shane Hollander alongside Ryann Redmond (Frozen), Cherry Torres (Hamilton), and Ryan Duncan (Gettin’ the Band Back Together). All but Moon reprise their roles from the concert production; Moon replaces Zachary Noah Piser.

Johnson will not perform from June 15-22.

Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody has a book, music, lyrics, and orchestrations by Dylan MarcAurele; direction by Alan Kliffer; choreography by Brooke and Tiffany Engen; scenic design by Sully Ross; costume design by Brendan McCann; lighting design by Devin Cameron; and sound design by Germán Martinez.
