Joe Mazzulla was asked what a Coach of the Year award would mean to him, and he said, “I think it’s a stupid award.
They shouldn’t have it.
It’s more about the players.
It’s more about the work the staff puts in.
It’s that simple, and I don’t ever want to be asked or talk about it again.”
Caroline, with these, h- w- I, I don’t know why New England bask- coaches all, all hate everything.
Is he on target or on something?
Yeah.
No more Coach of the Year.
That is hilarious that you frame it that way, because if you take Joe Mazzulla’s face away and you just take that quote out of context, I, I could’ve told you that was Mike Vrabel.

I could’ve told you that was Bill Belichick.
I could’ve told you that was literally any other coach in Boston.
So it’s hilarious that it feels like all of these Boston coaches are cut from the same cloth.
Fits, I mean, I fully admit that I’m kind of copping out here.
I think that Joe Mazzulla’s on target, but he’s also on something.

I love Joe Mazzulla.

And I do tip my cap to coaches that will always defer to the players first.
The players always get the credit, and the coaches always get the blame.

I think Joe Mazzulla has done a very good job of that.
So yeah, on target in the sentiment, but on something, I think, in phrasing it that way.
I think there’s way less, I’m trying to say a word that’s allowed on this show, way less, grumpy ways to phrase that, that you don’t have to call the award stupid.
Like, you can frame it and say, “Hey, look, it would be an absolute honor to win that award, but let’s not, you know, forget that this is really about our team and our ultimate goal is winning a championship.”
Let’s get My- I think that your sentiment gets expressed that way without totally and completely dragging that award through the coals
