“Shark Tank” star Mark Cuban isn’t pleased with the state of the Dallas Mavericks after he sold the NBA team in December 2023.
Cuban was one of the most outspoken NBA owners during his involvement with the Mavericks. However, the television personality stunned basketball fans when he walked away from the franchise nearly three years ago.

In a recent “Intersections” podcast interview, Cuban discussed the difficult decision to walk away from NBA ownership. Meanwhile, the 67 year old admitted his biggest regret about leaving the Mavericks following many years of success in the Western Conference.

“I don’t regret selling,” Cuban said. “I regret who I sold to. I made a lot of mistakes in the process, and I’ll leave it at that.”

Cuban held a majority stake in Dallas’ franchise for over two decades after purchasing for $285 million in 2000. However, the nearly $3.5 billion sale in 2023 hasn’t completely fulfilled Cuban considering the Mavericks’ lack of success on the court.
“I don’t regret selling, I regret who I sold to,” Cuban said. “I made a lot of mistakes in the process, and I’ll leave it at that.”

The longtime “Shark Tank” host sold to the Adelson Family, but since then there’s been recurring challenges for the Mavericks. In fact, Dallas shocked the NBA in 2025 when the franchise traded away Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.

That surprising trade put Dallas in the crosshairs with the team’s fanbase after giving away its top superstar. The Mavericks did luck out by grabbing Cooper Flagg with the number one overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
However, Flagg’s star abilities haven’t been enough to turn around Dallas’ immediate struggles this season. The Western Conference team is expected to have a high draft pick again in 2026 during a significantly star-studded class.

While Cuban still has some influence within the organization, the Adelson Family is gaining more stake in the team each year. That might not sit well with the fanbase until the Mavericks start to show clear signs of improvement.
