112 warning issued as severe storms, snow and gale-force winds hit Greek City Times

Greek authorities have issued an emergency 112 alert for residents in parts of the Peloponnese as severe weather intensifies across the country, with heavy rain, storms, strong winds and snowfall forecast over the next 48 hours.

A warning message was sent to residents in the Regional Units of Arcadia and Laconia, urging them to limit movement as dangerous conditions approach.

The alert stated:
“Due to severe weather events expected in the Regional Units of Arcadia and Laconia, limit your travel to absolutely necessary travel from noon to evening today. Follow the instructions of the Authorities.”

Forecast shifts but overall scenario unchanged

Meteorologists continue to track two weather disturbances affecting Greece, with real-time radar data from Windy showing slight timing variations in the arrival of the first system.

While initially expected earlier in the morning, the first disturbance is now projected to become more noticeable closer to midday. The second—and more intense—system is forecast to impact the country from the afternoon into the evening.

Despite minor timing shifts, experts stress that the overall forecast remains consistent.

EMY strengthens monitoring as red warnings remain

The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) has updated its emergency weather bulletin, originally issued on March 30, maintaining red-level warnings for several regions, including Attica.

To improve forecast accuracy, EMY has carried out additional radiosonde launches across all three of its stations, enhancing real-time atmospheric monitoring during the evolving weather event.

Heavy rain, storms and snow expected nationwide

Severe weather is forecast to affect most parts of the country today and tomorrow, with prolonged and intense rainfall, thunderstorms and the possibility of localised hail.

Strong easterly to southeasterly winds of 7 to 9 Beaufort are expected in eastern areas today, reaching up to 10 Beaufort locally in the Dodecanese.

Heavy snowfall is also forecast in mountainous regions of Epirus and Macedonia.
