This is one of 4 illegal immigrants that had been targeting Kroger grocery stores running a massive gift card scam. They were stealing unactivated gift cards from Kroger stores and then recording their serial numbers. The cards were then resealed into their original packages and placed back on store shelves or racks. Then, after the cards are purchased and activated, the thieves would steal the money that was loaded onto the cards.
This contributed more than million dollars in losses for these Kroger stores and actually changed the way they do business. They have recently installed new locks on the gift cards so that once they are taken off the shelves, they can not be put back on any shelves ensuring that customers do not purchase cards that have been tampered with.
