The United States is expanding shipments of liquefied natural gas to Southeast Europe and Ukraine via Greece, according to remarks by the US Ambassador to Athens, Kimberly Guilfoyle. The initiative is presented as part of a wider American energy strategy in the region.
Guilfoyle emphasized that energy security is treated as a core component of national security policy, underlining the strategic importance of diversified supply routes.
The gas is being transported through Greek LNG infrastructure, including the terminals at Revythousa and Alexandroupolis, and distributed along the so-called “vertical corridor” linking Greece with Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, and onward to Ukraine, as outlined by Greek authorities.
Officials indicated that the first shipment has already reached the Ukrainian market through the Balkan gas transmission system, marking an operational start to the supply route.
The US ambassador also pointed to forthcoming talks with Bulgaria and Romania aimed at strengthening regional cooperation in energy supply and infrastructure development.
Greek analysts cited in media commentary describe the growing LNG flow through Greece as part of a broader geopolitical shift, involving the reconfiguration of energy routes and influence across Europe.
