We’ll have to wait until tonight’s New York City premiere of The Drama to see what Zendaya has in store for the “something blue” installment of her carefully constructed approach to wedding-themed method dressing. But stopping by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with costar Robert Pattinson yesterday, she offered a preview in a dress that melded wedding day fantasy with honeymoon heat.
For the appearance, Zendaya wore a midnight blue sheer look from Zimmerman. The underpinnings of the piece—a lingerie-dress hybrid—featured a triangular bra that connected to a fitted corset. The dress’s skirt was just as risqué as the top half. Sitting low on her waist, it featured soft, diaphanous pleats and a tongue-in-cheek garter detail. Zendaya finished the look with a Rolex timepiece, silver earrings, and black Louboutin high heels.
Working with her Image Architect, Law Roach, Zendaya has planned her press fashion for The Drama as carefully as some people plan their wedding. At the film’s official premieres, she’s so far stuck to wearing “something old, something new, and something borrowed.” That’s manifested in Vivienne Westwood from her very own archive, custom Louis Vuitton, and a dramatic Armani Privé look borrowed from Cate Blanchett.
Her non–red carpet press fashion has stuck to theme, though not quite as strictly. Yesterday, the actor arrived at Good Morning America in an Erdem look that sidestepped bride-to-be style for sustainably minded fashion. She wore a tweed jacket and fringe “feather” skirt made entirely from recycled textile waste.
With The Drama officially in theaters tomorrow, we’re now just waiting for the official “something blue” reveal.
