A little interesting discovery has been made regarding the recent Switch 2 and Switch update, as Nintendo made some changes to a number of Mario icons.
It looks like for the first batch, new renders are being used. The differences can be a bit hard to spot, but they are present.
Here’s a look (version 21.2.0 on the left, version 22.0.0 on the right):
A few retro Mario icons were updated as well. These are also mostly similar, but the differences lie in the removal of artifacts around the edges of the art plus very slight changes in positioning.
You can see the comparisons below (original on the left, new on the right). Out of these, the Super Mario Bros. 3 icon (the second one) in the top right seems to be the easiest to see the differences.
Nintendo made many other icon changes last year, and those were quite substantial. A comparison can be found here.
As for the latest Nintendo Switch 2 update, it was significant as it added a new Handheld Mode Boost feature and more. In case you missed it, we have the patch notes here.
