TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – In September, Tallahassee was in the running for a grant that would fund free concerts in the Downtown Chain of Parks.
The Council on Culture & Arts (COCA) landed that grant, and a series of free concerts officially starts next week.
Folks can bring blankets, chairs and picnic baskets every second and fourth Thursday of the month to enjoy the Music Under the Oaks concert series at Lewis Park.

COCA grants manager Summer Callahan said the series will provide a fun and meaningful experience for the community.
“It offers people the opportunity to gather, also help people to remember what is unique, different, and important about Tallahassee. We’re really happy to be able to offer that,” Callahan said. “It’s important to us that it’s free because people deserve to live in a community where art is accessible and available to anybody.”
The grant from the Levitt Foundation will pay for 21 concerts over the next three years.
The first one is scheduled for April 9 when folk artist, Angela Autumn, who is known as the “Rose of Appalachia,” will take the stage.
Callahan says Music Under the Oaks will feature all kinds of music genres, from country to folk and R&B.
