For DJ iSizzle, weddings are about far more than just playing the right songs — they’re about telling a couple’s story through music. By taking a deeply personalized approach, he works closely with each couple to craft a soundtrack that reflects their journey, blending meaningful moments with crowd energy to create an unforgettable experience. From curated playlists to weekly mixes and his Behind The Booth podcast, DJ iSizzle continues to build connections beyond the dance floor, bringing heart, storytelling, and intention into every celebration.
DJ iSizzle, you’ve been DJing and MCing weddings for over five years and are now focused on elevating the experience beyond just music. What inspired you to take a more personalized, storytelling-driven approach to weddings?
When I first started DJing weddings, I quickly realized that the most memorable moments weren’t just about the songs—they were about the stories behind them. Every couple has a journey: how they met, the music they listened to on road trips, the song they danced to in their kitchen. Over time, I felt inspired to go beyond simply playing music and instead help couples tell their story through the soundtrack of their day. My goal is always to create moments where people feel something—whether it’s a tear during the ceremony or the entire room singing together on the dance floor. That emotional connection is what makes weddings so special to me.
You work closely with each couple to create a soundtrack that reflects their unique journey. What does your process look like when building those meaningful, customized playlists from ceremony to last dance?
My process always starts with listening. I spend time getting to know each couple—their personalities, the vibe they want for their wedding, and the songs that mean something to them. From there, we build the soundtrack step by step: ceremony music that sets the tone, cocktail hour that keeps the atmosphere warm and welcoming, dinner music that complements the moment, and a dance floor playlist that reflects both the couple and their guests. I also love blending timeless classics with modern favorites so everyone—from grandparents to friends—feels part of the celebration. By the time the last dance happens, the music feels like a reflection of their entire story.
As both a DJ and an MC, you play a key role in shaping the flow and energy of the entire event. How do you balance reading the crowd while also staying true to the couple’s vision for their big day?
That balance is one of the most important parts of being both a DJ and an MC. The couple’s vision always comes first—it’s their day and their soundtrack. At the same time, I’m constantly reading the room and paying attention to how guests are responding. Sometimes it’s about extending a moment when the energy is perfect, or pivoting slightly to keep the dance floor full while still staying within the couple’s style and preferences. My job is to guide the flow of the evening so everything feels natural, fun, and memorable.
You’ve recently started sharing weekly DJ mixes online, showcasing everything from Motown classics to modern hits. How has that helped you connect with your audience and give couples a sense of your style?
Starting my weekly mixes has been an amazing way to connect with people outside of events. It gives listeners—and future couples—a chance to hear my style and how I blend different eras of music together. I love creating mixes that move through Motown, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s, and today’s hits because that’s often what a great wedding dance floor looks like. It’s also a fun creative outlet where I can share music that inspires me and keep the energy going between weddings.
You also launched the Behind The Booth podcast, where you share stories and insights from the DJ world. What inspired you to start the podcast, and what kind of behind-the-scenes moments can listeners expect to hear?
The idea for the Behind The Booth podcast came from years of experiences that most people never get to see. DJs witness some incredible moments—funny ones, emotional ones, and everything in between. I wanted to create a space where I could share stories, insights, and lessons from life behind the DJ booth. Listeners can expect behind-the-scenes wedding moments, conversations about music and crowd energy, and stories from the DJ world that highlight how much heart goes into creating great events.
