- The video is packed with cameos.
Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” is already a certified hit. The song broke records with four consecutive weeks at the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Now, the country star is taking her tune to the next level with an incredible music video filmed at Fort Worth’s Stagecoach Ballroom.
On Wednesday, April 1, Ella Langley dropped the official “Choosin’ Texas” music video, and what do you know? Luke Grimes (aka Kayce Dutton on Yellowstone and Marshals) is her co-star in the project. But he’s not the only familiar face.
In the music video, Ella is in a white pickup truck with Luke heading into Abilene, Texas, where his character grew up. “You’re old stomping grounds, huh?” she asks Luke at a stop. “You ever wish you didn’t leave Texas?” His response? “Sometimes… not when I met you,” he admitted. The video then pans to Ella and Luke walking into a bar to meet some old friends for a drink, at which point the cameos and music start pouring in.
In less than 24 hours, the honky-tonk music video garnered over 1.5 million views, securing its spot as the #2 top trending music video on YouTube. Now, it’s closing in on the 5 million view mark. As fun as it is to see Ella and Luke act out her hit song, it’s the other familiar faces that keep surprising viewers. From Miranda Lambert performing on stage and Ava Phillippe (Reese Witherspoon’s daughter) playing Luke’s Texas love interest to a slew of real-life cowboys, cowgirls, and rodeo stars, including Leighton Berry, Dale Brisby, Tyson Durfey, Shea Fisher Durfey, JB Mauney, and Shad Mayfield. Beloved Texas musicians Wade Bowen, Casey Donahew, Mike Ryan, and Tanner Usrey also make appearances. As does Ella’s touring partner, Kaitlin Butts.
Kaitlin shared some behind-the-scenes moments of her villain arc in the video, writing, Ella “made me bully her in the “Choosin’ Texas” Official Music Video and I DID NOT LIKE IT…However, it is seriously the coolest thing that’s ever happened to be asked by Ella to be in this video during this massive moment around her and this song. Y’all go watch it and let me know if you need me to confront someone in a bathroom for ya. I’m real good at it. 🥰”
All in all, it’s a master class in music video production and brand placement (Jack Daniels, Shiner Bock, and Tecovas are the subtle stars of the act), and something fans can’t help but applaud (and rewatch). “PERFECTION! Loved all of the cameos,” one fan exclaimed on Instagram. “Can we make this a movie 🎥 🍿 I’d buy the tickets,” someone else commented. “This music video couldn’t be better! I’m obsessed,” another fan remarked.
