The deeply affecting narrative game As Long As You’re Here is now available on Mac, following dedicated work from the small development team to make the experience accessible to more players.
The developers emphasise that players should check the required specs, as optimisation across all devices isn’t yet possible for the tiny team, though they hope to improve performance over time.
A Game That Stays With You
As Long As You’re Here explores the inner world of Annie, a woman living with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia. Rather than explaining her condition, the game lets you feel her shifting reality, a perspective that resonates deeply with many players.
For me, its impact was personal at the time of playing. The game echoed what my husband’s mother was experiencing, and even when I stepped away, it lingered in my thoughts. It’s remarkable that creator Marlène Delrive achieved this emotional clarity in what began as an eight‑week student project, originally created to process her own grief and understand her grandmother’s final years.
A Story About Care, Memory and Connection
While the game touches on the challenges faced by children caring for ageing parents, its heart remains with Annie herself. Her confusion, her moments of clarity, and the emotional landscape of a mind in transition. It’s a rare narrative that prioritises empathy over exposition, inviting players to step into a perspective we rarely see portrayed with such tenderness.
