Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors reacts after making a three point shot.
The Golden State Warriors are preparing to welcome back franchise cornerstone Stephen Curry after a prolonged absence, but the team is also making an under-the-radar roster move aimed at stabilizing a depleted frontcourt.
According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Warriors are planning to sign center Charles Bassey as injuries continue to thin their rotation in the paint.
“The Golden State Warriors plan to sign Charles Bassey to a deal, league sources told @hoopshype,” Scotto wrote on X. “Bassey has averaged 4.2 points on 63% shooting from the field and 4.2 rebounds in 10.8 minutes during five NBA seasons.”
The move comes as Turkish big man Omer Yurtseven’s second 10-day contract expired while Golden State navigates multiple injury concerns in its frontcourt, most notably veteran center Al Horford and second-year big man Quinten Post. Horford, 39, has missed the last 11 games due to a calf strain, while Post has been in and out of the lineup with a right foot injury and is ruled out for Sunday’s matchup against the Houston Rockets.
Warriors Add Frontcourt Depth Amid Injuries

The addition of Bassey gives the Warriors a physical interior presence as they await reinforcements. Horford’s absence has been particularly impactful, with Golden State going 4–7 during that stretch while relying on smaller lineups and limited depth at center.
Per ESPN’s Anthony Slater, Horford has progressed to light on-court workouts and remains optimistic about returning before the play-in tournament. The team said in a statement following a March 27 re-evaluation that the veteran “continues his daily off-court rehabilitation routine” and is “making good progress.”
Another re-evaluation is expected soon, which will likely determine whether Horford can resume full team activities and log minutes before the postseason push.
Until then, Bassey is expected to help fill the gap.
Bassey Brings Interior Production, G League Success
Bassey became a free agent after his second 10-day contract with the Boston Celtics expired on Saturday. During his brief stint in Boston, he appeared in five games, averaging 2.8 points and 1.2 rebounds in limited minutes.
Originally selected with the 53rd overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Bassey has played for the Philadelphia 76ers and San Antonio Spurs, appearing in 113 career games from 2021 to 2025.
While his NBA role has largely been as a reserve, Bassey has shown significant production in the G League. Across 20 games this season with the Santa Cruz Warriors and Delaware Blue Coats, he averaged 20.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.1 blocks in nearly 30 minutes per game — numbers that highlight his ability to anchor the paint and protect the rim.
He also had a brief stint earlier this season with the Memphis Grizzlies on a hardship deal, continuing a pattern of short-term opportunities while remaining on the radar for teams in need of frontcourt depth.
Curry’s Return Looms Large for Warriors
While Bassey’s signing addresses a pressing roster need, the Warriors’ outlook will ultimately hinge on the return of Curry, who has missed 27 games.
The two-time MVP indicated he is eager to return as soon as he is medically cleared.
“I mean, love playing basketball. It’s what I get paid to do,” Curry said. “If I’m healthy to play and it’s safe to go out there and test it in live action, then all the work I’ve put in will hopefully pay off.”
Curry’s return is expected to provide a major boost to a Warriors team fighting for postseason positioning in a tightly contested Western Conference. His presence not only elevates the offense but also stabilizes rotations that have been in flux during his absence.
Timing Critical as Playoff Race Intensifies
With the regular season winding down, Golden State is balancing urgency with caution. The potential returns of Curry and Horford, combined with the addition of Bassey, could reshape the team’s rotation heading into the play-in tournament.
For now, Bassey represents an immediate solution — a low-risk addition with upside — as the Warriors look to stay afloat and build momentum at a critical juncture of the season.
