The Golden State Warriors are making a roster move ahead of their Sunday night action against the Houston Rockets.
The matchup marks the potential return of the superstar guard, Steph Curry.
According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Warriors are adding the veteran center, Charles Bassey. He recently spent multiple weeks with the Boston Celtics.
via Michael Scotto, HoopsHype: The Golden State Warriors plan to sign Charles Bassey to a deal, league sources told @hoopshype. Bassey has averaged 4.2 points on 63% shooting from the field and 4.2 rebounds in 10.8 minutes during five NBA seasons combined with the 76ers, Spurs, Grizzlies, and Celtics.
Back on March 15, Bassey signed his first 10-day contract with the Boston Celtics this season. When the initial deal expired, Bassey was re-signed on March 25. It was another temporary deal for Bassey, which expired on Saturday, April 4.
Bassey appeared in five games for the Celtics. The veteran center averaged 3.4 minutes of playing time. He produced 2.8 points per game, along with 1.2 rebounds per game.
Prior to Bassey’s Celtics run, he spent time with the Philadelphia 76ers and the Memphis Grizzlies, along with having stints in the NBA G League with the Warriors’ affiliate in Santa Cruz.
Bassey is a former second-round pick out of Western Kentucky. The Sixers selected him 53rd overall in the 2021 NBA Draft. Prior to his Celtics run, Bassey had appeared in 116 games since 2021. Most of those appearances occurred with the San Antonio Spurs, where Bassey played for three seasons.
The Warriors Should Get A Key Return vs. Houston
In addition to the eventual addition of Bassey, the Warriors are expected to get Steph Curry back this weekend. The Warriors listed Curry as questionable on the injury report. However, all reports leading up to Sunday’s action have suggested that Curry is on pace to play.
The last time Curry played for the Warriors was on January 30.
Before going down with an injury this season, Curry posted averages of 27.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists in 39 games. The Warriors are now 36-41, and getting ready for the NBA Play-In Tournament.
