Greece on Monday launched a “fuel pass” subsidy platform aimed at easing the burden of soaring energy prices for households and drivers.
Under the scheme, eligible car owners will receive 50 euros ($54), rising to 60 euros for residents of island areas, while motorcycle owners will get 30 euros, or 35 euros on islands.
The measure applies to individuals, including self-employed professionals, with a declared annual income of up to 25,000 euros for single applicants and 35,000 euros for married couples. The threshold increases by 5,000 euros for each dependent child. Authorities estimate the criteria will cover about 75% of drivers.
The subsidy is granted to all qualifying passenger car owners, including those using diesel vehicles, who will also benefit from an existing 20-cent-per-liter diesel subsidy.
Based on official data on average fuel consumption nationwide, the 50-euro fuel pass is equivalent to a subsidy of roughly 36 cents per liter, the government said.
