Alien Movies Dominate HBO Max Streaming Charts

A major Disney sci-fi franchise is dominating HBO Max. Having just arrived on the streaming platform, the Alien movies occupy three spots on HBO Max’s top 10 most-streamed movies today, according to FlixPatrol data.

Alien: Romulus is the fourth-most-watched movie on HBO Max today. Alien: Covenant is on the list in ninth place. The original 1979 Alien rounds out HBO Max’s top 10 movies list today.

The Alien Movies Invade HBO Max

These aren’t the only Alien movies on HBO Max. As of April 1, Alien, Aliens. Alien 3 and Aliens: Resurrection are all available on HBO Max, joining Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. Alien: Romulus joined a couple of days later, on April 3, making the entire Alien saga available to stream on HBO Max.

Even the Alien vs. Predator crossover movies, which exist in their own universe despite being envisioned as sequels and prequels to their two series parent franchises, are on HBO Max. That includes both the original Alien vs. Predator and the sequel, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem.

Alien: Romulus is the latest film in the Alien franchise. The film earned $350 million at the box office, which was enough for Disney to put a sequel into development. Fede Alvarez, who directed the film, is unlikely to direct Alien: Romulus 2. However, he did write the script himself, citing Alien 3 as inspiration for all the wrong reasons.

“I don’t think I was ever going to [direct Romulus 2]. We always knew right when we finished – this is one of those things where you come in and you do one, and get out. [James] Cameron, [David] Fincher… all those directors I love, they went and did one. Obviously, Ridley [Scott] created it; he has the right to make a bunch of them,” Álvarez said at the HorrorHound Weekend in February 2025.

He went on to say, “We did want to write it. Honestly, it’s because we love the characters we created, so we want to make sure no one kills them right at the beginning of the next one. They went and killed Hicks and Newt just like that [in Alien 3], hey, let’s not let that happen. We wrote it and made sure they stayed alive, and now we can let someone else make it.”

The Alien movies are streaming now on HBO Max.
