Most Confusing Movies for Texas Viewers Revealed

Have you ever finished watching a movie and thought: what the heck did I just watch? If the answer is yes, and you’re like me, then you immediately get online to Google what it all meant!

Well, turns out I’m the only one! A lot Texans are doing just that, and now we know exactly which movies are leaving us the most confused.

These Movies Have Texans Searching for Answers

A new study from transcription services company Ditto Transcripts, looked at what movies people in Texas are Googling the most when it comes to “ending explained” or “plot explained” searches.

Basically, the films that leave you sitting there during the credits questioning everything. And at the very top of the list?

Donnie Darko.

Yeah. That checks out. It’s been 25 years and I still don’t get that movie!

The Movies Texans Are Still Trying to Figure Out

Donnie Dark isn’t the only one that left us all confused, according to the study here are the top movies Texans are Googling to understand:

  1. Donnie Darko
  2. Shutter Island
  3. Enemy
  4. Inception
  5. Interstellar

I’m not even going to pretend, I’ve definitely Googled more than one of these!

Inception? Still not 100% sure I get that ending- did the top ever stop spinning?!

Shutter Island? Had me questioning everything.

And Interstellar? Incredible movie, but also had me sitting there like, “Wait… explain the time thing again?”

Also, is it kind of weird that Leonardo DiCaprio and Jake Gyllenhaal come out in two of these?! And two of these are Christopher Nolan who is notorious for giving us weird movies- looking at you Tenet!

There’s Actually a Reason These Movies Feel So Confusing

According to the study, it’s not just us, these movies are designed to mess with your brain a little.

Most of them fall into sci-fi or thriller territory, where:

  • Reality isn’t always clear
  • Timelines get weird
  • Endings are left open to interpretation

So that feeling of confusion? Totally intentional.

At the end of the day, these are the movies that stick with you- the ones you keep thinking about long after the credits roll.

Even if that means immediately grabbing your phone to Google, “Okay but what did that actually mean?”

Someone please explain Donnie Darko to me!
