The last time Valve tried creating a Steam Machine concept was about 10 years ago. Now, the company is giving it another go, with a series of new hardware devices coming in 2026.
“Announcing new Steam Hardware from Valve: Steam Controller, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame are coming in 2026. Just like Steam Deck, all three devices are optimized for Steam and designed for players to get even more out of their Steam library,” Valve announced on November 12 on YouTube.
That has some gaming fans excited.
“Valve’s advertisements feel like a friend saying ‘check out this cool thing I made,’ a fan responded in the YouTube comment thread. “Valve is such a preciously rare island of hope in this world,” another person wrote.
“This is Steam Deck. Steam Deck is our powerful, portable handheld gaming PC that lets you take your Steam library with you anywhere. We’re pretty proud of it,” Valve says in the video.
“We’re excited to talk about the future of Steam Deck. Today, we are announcing three new members of the Steam hardware lineup. All connect you with powerful PC gaming. All are optimized for gaming with Steam. And all are shipping in early 2026.”
The video then outlines the three pieces of hardware.
According to Mashable, the Steam Machine “is, essentially, a console version of a Steam Deck,” using the “same software, SteamOS,” and playing “games from your Steam library while plugged into a TV, like a console.” The price and exact release date are not yet clear, Mashable reports.
The company’s video goes into detail about the new hardware, though.
“This is the new Steam controller. The new Steam controller puts all of your Steam games at your fingertips so you can play wherever and however you want,” the video says. “Just like with Steam Deck, we want you to be able to play any game with your Steam controller.” The new controller has “next-generation magnetic thumbsticks,” the video says. It allows “precision gyro aiming.”
A rechargeable lithium-ion battery allows for over 35 hours of game time. The company also created The Puck, a combination wireless adapter and magnetic charger, the video says.
What is the new Steam Machine? “Steam Machine is a powerful gaming PC in a small but mighty package designed for your games on the big screen.” It is six times more powerful than a Steam Deck, according to the video.
“It’s built for gaming in your living room, your office, or wherever you play,” the video adds.
Steam Frame allows people to stream games in a VR headset, according to the video.
According to Steam‘s current website details, “With over six times the horsepower of Steam Deck, Steam Machine has the power to play your whole Steam library, including your favorite AAA titles. Just sign in with your Steam account and your entire library is there.”
The site explains, “Put it under your TV. Set it on your desk. Hide it under a banana. It’s powerful PC gaming packed into a roughly 6-inch (~160mm) cube.”
“Steam Machine keeps cool and runs whisper-quiet, even while running the most demanding games,” Steam says. “An OS optimized for gaming, with fast suspend/resume, and cloud saves. And that’s just the start.”
