FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The 13th annual Tortuga Music Festival is setting the vibe for first-timers and returning fans alike.
For some, it’s their first experience taking in the beachfront music scene, while others make the trip year after year.
“This is our third year in a row,” said Susie Magendantz, a visitor from Daytona Beach. “It’s our happy space. It’s my peaceful place. We love coming here,” added Eric Magendantz.
With the good times comes a focus on safety.
Uniformed officers from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department are stationed throughout the area, making it clear they’re there to help festivalgoers.
Police are also sharing safety tips with the public.
They say to be cautious in crowded areas due to the potential for pickpocketing and to keep phones and valuables close.
Festivalgoers are urged to stay aware of their surroundings and to know their entrances and exits.
Officials also warn not to accept drinks from strangers and not to leave drinks unattended.
People are encouraged to travel in groups with friends and not to leave anyone behind.
Police add that attendees should use official rideshare services only and verify the license plate, make and model of the car before getting in.
Road closures are also planned.
Seabreeze Boulevard and Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard will shut down around 10 p.m. to allow people to leave the area.
Anyone in the area who is not attending the festival is urged to be mindful of those closures.
