Kiln open beta lets you check out the Xbox Game Pass game on Steam before launch

With just a couple of weeks to go until Double Fine’s next title leaves our list of upcoming Game Pass games, the team is working on the final preparations. As part of those last tests and tweaks, players on PC can now dive into the Kiln open beta on Steam.

After recently running a closed beta on Xbox, Double Fine is now opening the doors for all players on PC, so you can check out the multiplayer game for yourself before the Kiln achievements arrive later this month. If you are on PC, you can download the Kiln open beta via Steam, and will have until April 12, 2026 to jump in for some pottery-based mayhem.

For the uninitiated, Kiln is a competitive multiplayer game that sees you playing as a spirit with the innate ability to inhabit clay pots. It has a full pottery-making suite involved, too, so you can truly create the pot of your dreams before battling it out with other players. Big, small, tall, wide, oddly shaped, or symmetrical, the choice is yours when creating your warrior pot.

Once you’ve designed your clay warrior, you can then take it into 4v4 multiplayer game modes to smash other players’ designs into tiny pieces. You’ll need to rely on your brawling skills and work with your teammates to collect water so you can douse the flames in your opponent’s kiln and claim victory.

It looks like a ton of fun, with all the hallmarks of Double Fine’s vibrant work. As this is just an open beta, you’ll only get to check out a small section of the game, and it’s unlikely your progress will carry over to the full release. Still, everyone who jumps in will be rewarded with a Participation Trophy for taking part when the game launches on April 23, 2026.
