Fourth Community Action Duluth board member resigns amid financial mismanagement allegations

DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) – Community Action Duluth (CAD) is seeing more fallout as another board member has stepped down amid ongoing financial mismanagement allegations and the recent closure of the Lincoln Park Farmers Market.

Board member Wendy Durrwachter became the fourth member to resign since last Friday.

Her departure follows escalating concerns from vendors who say they haven’t received payments owed to them and that their attempts to seek answers from the organization went unanswered.

Those concerns surfaced publicly after the Lincoln Park Farmers Market abruptly shut down earlier this month.

A former Community Action Duluth employee, who was placed on administrative leave, also claimed the nonprofit has not had an in-house finance manager since 2023, a gap they say contributed to widespread financial issues within the organization.

Durrwachter confirmed her resignation on Tuesday and issued a statement explaining her decision.

“I have resigned from the CAD board because I have concerns about the current state of the organization, and I’ve concluded that further service on the board would not be an effective way to have my concerns addressed,” she wrote.

Community Action Duluth has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the resignations or the financial allegations.
