Grand Junction police warn of ongoing banking scam targeting personal financial information

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) — The Grand Junction Police Department is warning the public about an ongoing banking scam targeting community members.

The department says scammers are pretending to be bank employees in an attempt to steal personal and financial information. This can include Social Security numbers, credit or debit card numbers and other bank account details.

Investigators say scammers may be using technology to impersonate calls or texts from legitimate banking institutions and may pose as representatives from a bank’s fraud department.

Police advise residents not to respond to these calls or text messages. Instead, they recommend verifying any suspicious messages by calling a phone number from their bank and never sharing personal or financial information.

If residents suspect their account has been hacked, they are urged to contact their bank immediately.
