The Holy Light from Jerusalem arrived in Athens on Saturday evening, marking a key moment in the Orthodox Easter celebrations across Greece.
Shortly after 19:30, the state aircraft carrying the Holy Light landed at Eleftherios Venizelos Airport, where it was received with the honors of a head of state. Despite challenges linked to ongoing tensions in the Middle East, the ceremonial transfer proceeded without disruption.
The Holy Light was transported to the Metochi of the Holy Sepulchre in Plaka, before being distributed to 18 destinations across the country. From there, it continues its journey to churches nationwide via special flights and road transport, ensuring its presence for the Resurrection Service.

Archbishop Ieronymos II referred to the challenges of the modern era, noting that people are facing growing insecurity due to wars and global instability.
“Anxiety for the future often becomes a silent cry within human existence… Within this reality, man seeks something stable, something true, something that gives meaning and hope,” he said.
The President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, emphasized the redemptive power of the Resurrection, stating from Syros that “in an uncertain and threatening world, the message of the Resurrection is redemptive.”
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed that “light always wins over darkness,” highlighting Greece’s steady path forward despite ongoing challenges.
