Avengers: Doomsday may not have a trailer yet, but early reactions suggest Marvel Studios might not even need one to build hype. The upcoming Russo Brothers-directed blockbuster has already left those who have seen it struggling to contain their excitement, with some placing it alongside the franchise’s most celebrated entries.
Avengers: Doomsday hailed as ‘greatest superhero movie’
Early reactions to Avengers: Doomsday have generated significant buzz across the Marvel fanbase. X user James Mack posted that he has been “hearing a lot of praise for Avengers Doomsday.” He added that “it feels like a comic book event brought to life, the greatest superhero movie of all time.”
Insider @MyTimeToShineHello reported that Marvel Studios screened a pre-reshoot version for Kevin Feige and select staff. The insider claimed they “were very pleased with it, some even called it the best Marvel movie yet.” Robert Meyer Burnett also compared reactions to those generated by 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War.
The film underwent major changes since its original announcement as The Kang Dynasty with Destin Daniel Cretton directing. Marvel pivoted to Doctor Doom as the central villain and brought the Russo Brothers back to direct. Kevin Feige also cast Robert Downey Jr. to play Victor Von Doom, a decision that drew mixed fan reactions.
Marvel Studios pushed the release date from May 1 to December 18 to refine the story. The studio also placed a full year between Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, with no new films between them. This strategy aims to build anticipation and position both films as major cinematic events.
The cast features Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, and Paul Rudd. The Fantastic Four: First Steps leads Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, and Joseph Quinn to also join. X-Men franchise stars Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and Kelsey Grammer appear alongside Channing Tatum. The Russo Brothers directed from a screenplay by Stephen McFeely, with Michael Waldron also contributing.
