For some time now, I’ve had safari clothing on the brain. Old Banana Republic, classic British country clothes, military surplus—that’s the stuff I’m into. I don’t think I’ll ever be a member of The Explorer’s Club (too dumb, probably) but I always want to look like a guy that was hanging out there circa 1912. This is consequence of being into clothes but also having a dad with a pretty extensive National Geographic collection—same reason why I care about pocket knives, but pretty ones, not useful ones.
Thankfully, for me, Banana Republic is starting to arc towards what it’s meant to be; the brand vision is bending back into fun, functional, wannabe safari clothes. This collaboration with The Explorer’s Club is that to a tee, a masterclass in the type of clothes I love.
There’s not a standout safari jacket for the men, sadly, but there’s a killer safari jumpsuit in the women’s section. In fact, that jumpsuit and this skirt are the best items in the collection—my wife will be happy. But! The men’s stuff is still stellar. It’s all exactly what I want for spring and summer 2026. It’s all based off old-school stuffy styles, but it’s the coolest thing I can think of right now. I’ll be buying as much of the collection as I can afford (if you see me fly fishing in Central Park wearing the zip-off pants, mind your fucking business) and you should too.
