Greek diplomacy marked three key milestones this month, as newly appointed ambassadors formally presented their credentials to heads of state and senior leaders across three countries—strengthening Greece’s diplomatic presence in Europe, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia.
Greek Ambassador to the Vatican City
On November 15, 2025, Greece’s Ambassador to the Holy See, Despina Poulou, was received at the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City by Pope Leo XIV. The ceremony marked the official beginning of her mandate as Greece’s representative to the Vatican. Diplomatic sources noted that her tenure will focus on deepening cultural ties, interfaith dialogue, and collaboration on global humanitarian initiatives.
Greek Ambassador in Tajikistan
Earlier in the month, on November 11, 2025, Greece’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Ekaterini Xagorari, formally presented her credentials to President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan. During her stay in the capital, Dushanbe, Ambassador Xagorari held meetings with the Deputy Foreign Minister and other senior officials. Discussions reportedly included bilateral cooperation, regional security dynamics, and opportunities in trade, energy, and education.
Greece in Timor-Leste
Meanwhile, in Southeast Asia, Greece’s Ambassador to Singapore, Christodoulos Margaritis, completed the formal accreditation process for his parallel posting to Timor-Leste. On September 19, 2025, he presented his credentials to the President of Timor-Leste, José Ramos-Horta, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former prime minister. The expanded accreditation aims to reinforce Greece’s partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region, where strategic cooperation and maritime diplomacy continue to grow in importance.
In a brief statement, the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs congratulated the ambassadors and expressed confidence in their future work, noting that each mission represents a commitment to advancing Greek interests and strengthening international cooperation.
