I started looking forward to GapStudio’s seasonal drops after giving the fall drop a test drive. Not only is it easier to get your hands on than the store’s collabs, like the now sold-out one with Sandy Liang, but it’s really nice. (GapStudio is Gap Inc.’s EVP and Creative Director Zac Posen’s fashion-forward line.) The latest collection, coming out just in time for the holidays, is made up of party-ready essentials you can wear to the office holiday party and after. And once again, the brand tapped Apple Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow to be the faces of the launch. I tried on seven pieces to tell you what to buy. In general, I would say the pants run a bit small, so I suggest trying one size up.

My favorite piece I tried on was the rib T-shirt. With thick but stretchy pleated material, it was a nice upgrade to a regular tee. I tried a size small, which is my usual size, and it was a perfect fit, but I think a medium would’ve worked nicely too. It’s easy to dress up or down; I ended up wearing it with jeans and sneakers.
After my last try-on, I determined I needed to size up in the pants to get the best fit. I’m usually an eight or ten, depending on the style, but I opted for a size 12 for the bootcut trousers. These still fit a little small at the waist, but I was able to button them, so the snugness is an issue that shapewear could probably solve. I’m not the biggest fan of a low-rise pant, but I loved the shape and stretchy material. They were, surprisingly, not too long on me, and I’m under five-foot-five.

Hands down my favorite pants were these satin trousers. The material looked a little like faux leather, and the fit was perfect and flattering despite being low-rise. These were also size 12, and I liked the way they draped on the leg without being too long.

This bolero situation was very cute and soft, as the CashSoft line is. This isn’t really my style, but if it’s yours, I would recommend it.

Slip dresses are one of my go-tos. I wouldn’t wear one this form-fitting, but it looked good. The material was stretchy, and the size ten fit perfectly. It was, however, very, very sheer.

This jacket is pricey but worth it if you want a faux fur in your closet. I tried a medium-large, and it was spacious, warm, and oversize; I could definitely size down. It’s also reversible, and I think for that alone it’s worth it.
Unfortunately, as much as I love a barrel-leg pant, these did not fit, but the shape was great. I tried a size eight and they were too tight on the waist. I think in general the Studio line runs smaller than standard Gap, something to note while shopping.
The line is available at gap.com.
