Romanian music, procrastination resources, ‘Polar Express’ this week – Northern Star


In this Weekly Writeup, you can find events such as a performance by the World Music Program, an exploration of the history of tattoos, a resource to help beat procrastination and more. 

STRING MUSIC FROM EASTERN AND SOUTHERN EUROPE 

Date and Time: noon to 1 p.m. Monday 

Location: Music Building, Recital Hall 

The World Music Program will perform the final concert of their World Music Fall Series which will feature Romanian and Balkan style music. The concert will be free for all to attend. 

THE ART OF TATTOOS 

Date and Time: 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday 

Location: DeKalb Public Library 

Join tattoo artist Jaime Torraco from the DeKalb Tattoo Company in exploring the history and cultural significance of tattoos, different artistic styles and the process behind placing art on skin. 

PROCRASTINATION CAFE 

Date and Time: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday 

Location: Holmes Student Center, Ellington’s Restaurant 

Join in a focused space where students can set goals and complete assignments for the chance to earn treats and small prizes. In addition, learn how to take on and break free of procrastination habits. 

FREE SHOWING – POLAR EXPRESS 

Date and Time: 11 a.m. Friday 

Location: Egyptian Theatre 

The Egyptian Theatre will be showing the winter classic film “Polar Express” for free to celebrate the Winter season. No ticket or RSVP is required for entry. 

“IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE” 

Date and Time: 2 p.m. Sunday 

Location: Egyptian Theatre 

The Egyptian Theatre will show the film “It’s a Wonderful Life,” which tells the tale of George Bailey, a man who has rejected his dreams and given up on life and is shown all the lives he’s influenced. Tickets are $16.50 for adults, $14.50 for seniors and students and $12 for children 12 and under.
